FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions

Where will the students sleep?

The Astro Camp program will use 3-4 rooms for sleeping. These rooms were regular classrooms during the school year. All participants will be sleeping on cots in these rooms.
Back

Is there air conditioning?

We are very happy to report that the entire building, including the simulators, is equipped with Central Air Conditioning.
Back

Where will the students eat?

All campers and staff will be eating in the school cafeteria.
Back

Will students be allowed to choose their roommates?

There are boy dorm rooms and girl dorm rooms. There is a place on the application form where one may request roommates. Putting a name or names in this area will help us make sure friends and family members end up in the same dorm room with cots next to each other.
Back

Will friends and family members be put on the same team?

Because of the wide variety of students attending camp we cannot guarantee friends and family members will be put on the same team. The one acception to this would be those family members attending Family Camp or those taking advantage of the “1st Time Friend” discount. Our long experience has shown that it is beneficial if a camper gets to know new people. Each student will have the opportunity to interact with students from across the country and make new friends.

Can family members visit their children or siblings while they are at camp?

We would ask that there be no visits during the time camp is in session.
Back

What if there are special dietary needs?

Each student is required to fill out a simple medical form. Please list any food allergies on this form. If a student requires a doctor ordered diet, then the parents may send food with the student.
Back

What food is served during camps?

Breakfast and Lunch are prepared in the school kitchen. These meals are always filling and enjoyable. The evening meals are usually catered by Pizza Hut, Macey’s delicatessen, or Panda Express.

What if a student is on medication?

Utah State Law prohibits us from dispensing medication of any type to campers. Any prescribed or over the counter drugs must be sent with the student to camp. You will need to list all medications sent with the student on the medical form along with the dosage information. We can remind the student to take their med’s but they must self administer them. If medication requires refrigeration, please let us know and we can take care of that. Because our days can sometimes be very long, it is advisable that parents send a small supply of over the counter headache or stomach ache medicine (e.g. Ibuprofen, Pepto Bismol tablets, etc.)
Back

Can a student call home?

Parents may send cell phones with their child but we would ask that phone calls be limited to before breakfast or prior to bedtime. Cell phones must be kept in their suitcases during daytime hours.
Back

How do I find the building where summer camps are being held?

Driving instructions will be emailed to the parents 3 to 4 weeks prior to camp. Driving instructions can also be found on the website. For those who have a GPS system, the address of camp is 375 Goddard Ave. in Ogden, Utah
Back

How well are the students supervised?

The director (Annika Jensen) and 4-5 other staff members stay on site 24 hours a day while camp is in session. We have tried very hard to set up a program that we, being parents ourselves, would feel comfortable sending our own children to.
Back

Can a student come to more than one camp during the same summer?

Absolutely, we have many students who come to multiple camps during a summer.
Back

Are there any discounts available?

There are two discounts available. The “Rebound” discount is given to a student who attends more than one camp during the same summer. Those attending a second camp will be given a $30 discount. If the same student attends a third camp they will receive a $60 discount. The “1st Time Friend” discount of $30 is given to anyone who brings a friend to camp who has never been before. The discount will be applied once the friend has paid their tuition in full. They and their friend will be placed on the same team.
Back

Is there any financial aid available?

There are times when companies or individuals will make a scholarship donation to our programs. This does not happen every year so the best thing to do would be to contact us and ask if there are any scholarships available for the upcoming summer.
Back

Can anyone come to the graduation ceremony?

Because of the limited size of the rooms, we would ask that the attendees be restricted to immediate family members. Grandparents are more than welcome to attend.
Back

Does Astro Camp accept private and corporate donations?
